Most phones/microphones will cancle out or not pick up a blast if its close. Many phones are designed only to pick up sounds within the human voice spectrum, as well. I've heard quite a few of these types of 911 calls where gun shots were fired and alot of the time you cant hear the blast, or you hear it very faintly.
